About
An independent merchant, held by the people who run it.
Meridiem Global was founded to do one thing well: take physical commodities from where they are produced to where they are consumed, and carry the risk in between.
What we actually do
We buy physical cargo, take title, and sell it on. Between those two points we charter the vessel, manage the quality, finance the position and absorb the timing risk. That is the whole business, and everything else exists to support it.
We are not a broker. When a producer sells to us, they are paid by us. When a mill buys from us, their recourse is to us. That distinction matters when a cargo is off-specification or a vessel is delayed.
How we work
Desks are organised by commodity, not by geography, so the person quoting a cargo is the person who knows the grade, the load port and the current freight market on that route.
Operations sit alongside trading rather than in a separate function. The operator who will execute a contract is involved before it is signed.
Positions are hedged as a matter of policy. We take origination and logistics risk deliberately; we do not carry unhedged flat price by default.
Ownership and capital
The firm has been independently held since founding, without outside institutional shareholders. Retained earnings and committed bank facilities fund the trading book.
That structure keeps decision-making short and lets us hold positions through a cycle rather than to a reporting date.
